SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES
|
- President Correa reviewed the Cotopaxi volcano and the re-opening of its park.
- He stressed that it is one of the best monitored volcanoes in the world.
- He also recalled the state of roads, shelters, health centers, which continue to be in good condition. "We are prepared to face emergencies in case of an eruption." He acknowledged the blow to the local economy which currently is affecting the latacungueños and the actions being taken to help in this regard.
- He announced the opening of an extension to the ESCUELA POLITÉCNICA DEL EJÉRCITO (ESPE) in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas.
- The president said that the main indigenous issue in Ecuador is poverty: "The big challenge is to go out, overcome poverty, without losing its identity."
- He recalled the period of his youth in the parish Zumbahua.
- He visited the type B Health Center in Salcedo. He asked for a study on the occupancy of the center.
- He summarized the activities for the festival of Quito: Solemn Session, Serenata Quito, etc.
- He was present in activities by the Spanish foundation of Loja: Solemn Ceremonies, Public Works tours, visit to the Cathedral, and lunch with local authorities and leaders.
- He highlighted the upgrading of the Loja Airport.
- He revisited the before and the after situation of the high school Colegio Bernardo Valdivieso, flagship campus of Loja. The government invested USD 14 million dollars. It has a capacity for 5000 students (morning, afternoon and night shifts). It has a swimming pool, laboratories, coliseum, etc.

INAUGURATION OF
BANDSHELL IN SAMANES PARK GUAYAQUIL

- The President will be tonight (Saturday December 12) at the opening of the new Guayaquil Bandshell in Samanes park.
- Victor Heredia will be presented along with Leon Gieco, Piero , Pueblo Nuevo , Beatriz Gil, and the Guayaquil Symphony Orchestra. He gave thanks to the construction contractor. "We were hoping to bring Placido Domingo (tenor and Spanish baritone), but it would have been very expensive," he said.

ACTIVITIES IN ARGENTINA
|
- The National University of Cordoba, one of the oldest in Argentina, awarded an honorary doctorate to the President . It is his thirteenth doctorate.
- He dined with scholarship-awarded students from Ecuador in Buenos Aires. He highlighted how the University Scholarship Program Ecuador is one of the best in the world , much has been invested , and he emphasized the efforts to improve academic levels of Ecuadorian universities.
- He also presented a video summary of his attendance to the presidential inauguration of Mauricio Macri.
- He joked about tripping over the carpet at the moment of him greeting the Presidential couple.
- In another other developments, President Correa said that while he has been decorated by the Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo; Jorge Videla, the military chief of the dictatorship at that time decorated the former Ecuadorian foreign minister who was part of the interim government of Fabian Alarcon.

POLITICS

- The president expressed himself on the efforts of the opposition in obstructing the administration of his government with marches, media campaigns, and opposition to the amendments. "They look to overthrow the government (...) They only seek electoral benefits, no benefit to the country, and these actions are costing us much more in governing. They have opposed everything – the Water Distribution law, induction cookers (...). Not only have they opposed the amendments but to each and every decision, thus costing Correa (...) such that people will throw stones. Do not fall into that trap!, We are more united and will defeat them," he said.
- He questioned if in fact Fausto Cobo (ex Patriotic Society) has been Director of the War Academy.
- He referred to a tweet titled "Video nobody dares to publish", the former editorial director of the newspaper El Universo, Emilio Palacio, self-exiled in Miami, has sought to discredit him because the President appears dancing with a woman during a dinner hosted by the Embassy of Ecuador in Buenos Aires. This is a dinner offered to Ecuadorian students and fellows, and with the assistance of the Ecuadorian authorities.
- He recalled that E. Palacio aimed to do the same media trick with his wife when she traveled with one of his daughters to the United States when attending a theater course in New York: breaking security protocols, they allowed a photo, and then he published saying that "she was on a shopping-spree in that country".
- By the way, the President said: "A good Press is fundamental to democracy, and a bad Press is fatal to democracy."

ECONOMY
|
- The President criticized business community members who dismiss workers without cause." An employer who lays off workers is a mediocre; in the public sector there will be no layoffs," he exclaimed.
- He said he had a meeting with the Superintendence of Banks, with bank representatives. He praised the high level of solvency of the Ecuadorian banking, and stated that the banks have been handled responsibly. "We have USD 2,300 million dollars in liquidity funds," he said. He also received bankers suggestions, adding that he would only apply those deemed necessary.
- He guaranteed, at the meeting, the current monetary scheme (dollarization). He also analyzed measures that would benefit the bankers, as was done to the Tax Remittance bill, allowing buyers to obtain cheaper foreign currencies.
- He noted that the meeting was with Antonio Acosta and Fernando Pozo (Pichincha bank), Angelo Macklif Caputti and Julio Elizalde (Bank of Guayaquil), Efrain Vieira (Bank of the Pacific), Ricardo Cuesta (Bank of Promérica), Francisco Naranjo (International Bank), and with representatives of the Central Bank, Superintendent of Banks, consultants, among others.

OXY CASE AND PAYMENTS
GLOBAL BONDS 15

- He secured that "on Monday the payment of Global 15 Bonds will be made and the first payment to OXY. "
- "How many times has the country paid out bonds? None, zero! It is the first time that bonds of a legitimate debt will be paid( ... ) It used to be, that this would be paid up to three times for the same debt, and there were illegalities, conflicts of interest, ministers and lawyers had debts (that they would buy) and they would do so defending their own interests, " he said.
- This debt (Global Bonds 15) "is legitimate and we will pay for the first time in history ( ... ) . This year has been difficult, but we will have fulfilled our obligations,“ he said.
- He predicted that the next year the country will get ahead. He congratulated once again his economic team. "We have closed December with creativity," he said.
- He announced that the dividends and public sector wages are guaranteed.

POSITIVELY ECUADOR
|
- A video of the exuberant and welcoming cheers of students from the University of Cordoba with President Correa and an emotional speech by the Director of the University was presented.

THE VICE-PRESIDENT’S TOUR IN CHINA
|
- The Vice President Jorge Glas and his entourage in China had several meetings with businessmen, bankers and government authorities.
- Their goal was to keep credit cooperative relationships, complete project financing of strategic sectors and seek new investment opportunities.
- The VP attended the opening of the Second Summit of Political Parties of CELAC-China, which aims in changing the productive matrix and to strengthen the political union of these two regions.
- The VP also met with Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao. And he met with the directors of Sinohydro for new investments in strategic sectors of Ecuador.
- With the Eximbank bank, they agreed to strengthen financial relations.
- Sinosure, one of the best Insurance institutions in the world, and in China, received the Ecuadorian delegation to review completed projects and possible future investments. On this same agenda, the Ecuadorian delegation met with Lian Li Gou, chairman of Bank of China.

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
|
- The President presented how Fox suspended two journalists for spewing insults on a on-air program, against US President Barak Obama.
- "It is an example, in the United States, of what happens when journalists offend the President of the Republic," he emphasized that and detailed the insults launched on-air by Diego Oquendo (radio vision ) and Alfredo Pinoargote ( Ecuavisa ) .
- “If I answer back at them (referring to Oquendo and Pinoargote) they will say that is an attack on freedom of expression ," he said ironicly.
- He questioned about this freedom of expression case on the Fox Networks and said: "What will the Commission on Human Rights say about this?"
